Age of Empires IV is a real-time strategy game that returns to the series' historical roots, letting players guide civilizations through distinct eras of development while managing economies, technology, and armies. Campaigns are built around real historical events and figures.

Each civilization plays with its own strengths and strategies, and the game emphasizes large-scale battles and long-term planning, aiming to recapture the depth that made earlier entries in the series so influential.
