How to Redeem an Xbox Code: Web, Console, and PC
July 25, 2026 · News
Xbox game keys, subscription codes, and gift cards are redeemed to a Microsoft account. That account — and the Xbox profile or gamertag connected to it — becomes the owner of the game, subscription, or balance. Because most codes can be used only once, the most important step happens before you type anything: make sure you are signed in to the correct account.
The web method below is the simplest and most consistent option. You can also redeem a code directly on an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console, or through Microsoft Store on a Windows PC.
Before you redeem an Xbox code
- Check the product type. A game key, downloadable content, Game Pass subscription, and Microsoft or Xbox gift card can all use Microsoft’s redemption system, but they add different things to your account.
- Check the platform and edition. Some products work on Xbox consoles, some on Windows, and some support both through Xbox Play Anywhere. DLC normally requires the matching base game and edition.
- Check the region. Products, subscriptions, and account balance obtained in one region may not work in another. Use a code sold for the country where you genuinely live.
- Confirm the account. Check the email address and gamertag before the final confirmation. Redeemed content and wallet funds cannot simply be transferred to a different Microsoft account.
Method 1: redeem an Xbox code on the web
- Open the official page at redeem.microsoft.com.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to the Xbox profile that should receive the product.
- Enter or paste the 25-character code. Hyphens are usually added automatically.
- Select Next, review the product and account shown on screen, and confirm.
After redemption, a game or app is added to the account’s library; a subscription changes the subscription status; and a gift card adds balance in the code’s supported currency and region. You can redeem on a phone or another computer and download later on your console.
Use only Microsoft-owned pages. A real redemption page uses a microsoft.com domain and asks you to sign in to Microsoft. A seller or support agent does not need your Microsoft password or two-factor authentication code.
Method 2: redeem on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
- Sign in to the profile that should own the product.
- Open Microsoft Store on the console.
- Open the Store side menu and choose Redeem. On current console layouts, the View button can open this side menu.
- Enter the 25-character code, review the product, and confirm.
Microsoft changes console navigation from time to time. If the Redeem item is not where you expect it, use the web method above: the result is the same because the licence is attached to your Microsoft account, not to the device used for redemption.
Method 3: redeem on a Windows PC
Open Microsoft Store, select your profile icon, and look for Redeem code or gift cards. Enter the code and confirm the product. If that option is unavailable or the Store app asks for an update, redeem through the official website instead. Microsoft specifically recommends the web route when an app cannot complete the transaction.
Where to find the game after redemption
On Xbox, open My games & apps → Full library → Owned games, find the title, and install it. On Windows, check the Library in the Xbox app or Microsoft Store, depending on the product. A console-only game will not become a Windows licence unless its product page explicitly includes PC or Xbox Play Anywhere.
DLC may not appear as a separate game. Highlight the base game, open Manage game and add-ons, select the game, and review the available add-ons. Consumable currency can require you to start the correct game and sign in to the linked publisher account.
Common Xbox code problems
The code is invalid or was typed incorrectly
Copy the code again and remove accidental spaces. Confirm that all 25 characters are present and that the key is an Xbox or Microsoft code rather than a product key for another platform. If Microsoft still rejects it, save a screenshot of the exact error and contact the retailer with your order number.
The code was already redeemed
Check your Microsoft order history, subscriptions, and game library on every account you commonly use. Family members sharing a console may have redeemed the code to another profile. If none of those accounts owns the product, contact the retailer; do not share the full code publicly.
The code does not match your region
Microsoft warns that games, apps, subscriptions, and account balance obtained in one region may not work in another, and that account funds do not move between regions. Do not change the account or console region merely to bypass a restriction. Microsoft recommends changing region only when you move to another country for a long period. If the listing promised support for your country and the code does not match it, contact the seller.
The product is missing after a successful redemption
Restart the console or Store app, confirm that it is using the same Microsoft account, and search the full owned library. Check whether the product is DLC, a subscription benefit, a currency pack, or a console-only title. You can also review the account’s order history to confirm what was redeemed.
If your code came from KEY4GAMES
Payment at KEY4GAMES is currently arranged by bank transfer or directly with our manager. A manager confirms payment before the key is issued, so delivery is not instant. Pre-order keys are issued at release, not immediately after payment.
If Microsoft refuses your code, email orders@key4games.com with your order number, Microsoft account country, device, and a screenshot containing the full error message but hiding most of the key. Under our Refund Policy, a key that is faulty, already used, or region-locked contrary to its listing is replaced, or refunded if a replacement is unavailable.
Microsoft’s current official entry point is Redeem a gift card or code to your Microsoft account. For region guidance, see Change your country or region in Microsoft Store.
