Super Mario Galaxy 2 continues the gravity-bending, planetoid-hopping platforming of its predecessor with an even larger set of galaxies and new gameplay twists, including the addition of Yoshi as a rideable companion with his own abilities. The core loop of navigating spherical worlds and collecting Power Stars remains central.

Building on the original's foundation, it introduces new power-ups and level concepts while refining the controls and pacing. It stands as a direct continuation of one of the more imaginative 3D Mario adventures.
